Subspace Emissary Plot
The Subspace Emissary Plot is SSBB's main storyline mode. The story follows the attack of the Ancient Minister on the Smash Brothers world. The game's good characters fight to battle the army of the Ancient Minister and reclaim the lost portion of the world, while the evil characters fight to turn their good counterparts into statues and gain their power. The player must also defeat bosses such as a giant piranha plant and Rayquaza from the Pokemon game series. Each level of the Subspace Emissary Plot storyline uses a group of preset characters to choose from and can be played with up to two players.
Solo Modes
The game includes several single-player modes including Classic, All-Star Mode and Events. In Classic mode, players fight in a series of battles similar to the original Super Smash Brothers game. The match types are preset though the opponents are random. In All-Star mode, the player must survive against all the characters in the game with only a single life and three heart containers. Event mode contains 41 different challenges with specific finish requirements.
Group Modes
The group modes in SSBB allow multiple players or a single player and computer opponents to compete in a variety of contests. The standard Brawl mode allows up to four players and can be played based on a set number of lives, time limit or other constraints. The Special Brawl mode enhances the normal Brawl mode by including additional options such as total invisibility for all players, projectile reflection, or modifications to the damage system. Tourneys allow up to 32 players to compete in a tournament bracket.
Mini-Games
Super Smash Bros.: Brawl incorporates several mini-games for practice and training. Target Smash requires the player to destroy a number of targets and tests the player's skill in using all of a character's abilities. Each Target Smash area is specific to the character chosen. Players participating in Home-Run Contest are given a bat and must smash a sandbag as far as possible.
