How to Unbrick a Nintendo Wii With Power That Won't Turn On

The Nintendo Wii is Nintendo's fifth-generation gaming console. The system has an external power supply supplied by an AC adapter, which makes it more convenient to troubleshoot than systems with integrated power supplies. When a Wii won't turn on, odds are, it's an issue with the power supply rather than any of the internal components.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the AC adapter from both the system and the outlet. Leave the adapter unconnected for at least two minutes.

    • 2

Disconnect all controllers, accessories and memory cards. Make sure nothing is plugged into the USB slots while troubleshooting the AC adapter, as these draw power from the Wii.

    • 3

Plug the AC adapter directly into a wall outlet (not a power strip or surge protector).

    • 4

Consider replacing the AC adapter with either a used AC adapter. Contact Nintendo's Customer Support (see Resources) for further help.
