Wii Softmod Instructions

The Wii is Nintendo's seventh generation video game console, which was popularized by its wireless, motion-sensitive controllers. Unlocking the Wii so unofficial third-party software can be used on the console is possible without opening the case or installing a modchip. This process is known as a "softmod," and is achieved by installing the Homebrew Channel. Once modified, the Wii can then run emulators, play DVDs, and run software directly from an SD card or external USB drive.

    • 4

Put the SD card into the Wii, then switch the console on.

    • 5

Click the "Wii" icon, followed by "Data Management." Click the "Channels" option, and open the "SD Card" tab.

    • 6

Click "Yes" when asked if you want to load "boot.elf." Press the "1" button on the Wii controller when the warning screen appears.

    • 7

Press "A" on the Wii controller to continue, and then select "Install The Homebrew Channel." Once the "Homebrew Channel" is fully installed, restart the Wii. The softmod is now complete and homebrew software can be installed by going to the Homebrew Channel.
