How to Make a Tri Wing

The tri-wing screwdriver needed to work on a Nintendo Wii game console is not difficult to find and doesn't cost a lot of money. Nevertheless, if you are eager to get started on taking your console apart, it is possible to make your own tri-wing screwdriver from a Phillip's head screwdriver simply by grinding down the prongs of the Phillip's head screwdriver. This won't be a perfect match to the screws on your system, but it will work well enough for your purpose.

Things You'll Need

Phillip's head screwdriver
Rotary tool
Workbench
Vice

Instructions

  Grind down the edges of the four prongs of a Phillip's head screwdriver with a rotary tool such as a Dremel rotary tool. Grind the edges so that they are more rounded than they currently are.

  Grind down one of the four prongs of a Phillip's head screwdriver until that one prong has been completely removed from the tool. Note that you should attach the screwdriver to a workbench with a vice for safety.

  Let the screwdriver cool down for about an hour as grinding will cause it to be hot. You'll have a usable tri-wing screwdriver to use on your Wii game console or whatever you need to use it on.
