Things to Be Careful About on a Wii Fit

"Wii Fit" is a collection of assorted exercise games for the Nintendo Wii. "Wii Fit" comes with a balance board that allows you to play the games. The board also measures your weight, so you can track your weight loss. You need to take a few precautions while playing "Wii Fit," especially if you have medical conditions or your playing area is cramped with household items.
  1. Physical Damage

    • "Wii Fit" requires you to stand on the "Wii Fit" balance board before attempting any exercise, and most exercises require you to move on the board in some fashion. The board stands at a slightly elevated height, so you may incur ankle, foot, or leg injuries by accidentally stepping off the board. A good way to prevent falling off is to remain aware of how large the "Wii Fit" board is and practice moving on it before you exercise. Also remove anything within your arm span while you perform the exercises, because some of the exercises require you to swing the Wii remote.

    Medical Conditions

    • Since "Wii Fit" is primarily an exercise game, expect periods of intense physical exercise during certain exercises. If you have any medical conditions that may worsen due to physical exercise, consult your doctor before attempting to play the game. For example, "Wii Fit" may agitate some lung and heart conditions. If you do have a medical condition that is affected by playing "Wii Fit," you may still be able to play the game by not performing some of the more intense exercises, such as hula hoop and boxing. If you feel your heart racing, chest tighten, or experience a difficult time breathing, stop immediately.

    Balance Board

    • The "Wii Fit" balance board can handle up to 600 lbs. of weight, but it can only accurately measure up to 330 lbs. of weight. If you're larger than 330 lbs., don't use "Wii Fit," as you could damage the board or injure yourself. Although the board can withstand the 330 lb. weight, several games require you to jump and move with a lot of force exerted onto the board, so you may damage the board and risk injury to yourself at the same time.

    Hydration

    • Since most "Wii Fit" exercises are designed to work up a sweat, you'll be losing water from your body, and in some cases a significant amount. Always hydrate yourself after every exercise, otherwise you risk dehydration. Symptoms of dehydration include dry mouth and eyes, loss of sweat even with continued exercise, cramps, nausea, heart palpitations and dizziness. If these symptoms ever occur while you're playing "Wii Fit," immediately stop and drink a glass of water.

    Wrist Strap

    • You'll use primarily the "Wii Fit" balance board and Wii remote for "Wii Fit" exercise. The Wii remote comes with a wrist strap attached to the bottom of the remote. Always slide your wrist through and tighten the strap. Otherwise you may accidentally let go of the remote, causing damage to household items.
