How to Connect a Wii to an HD Converter Box

There are several ways you can hook your Nintendo Wii video game console up to a high definition television (HDTV) set. One such method is through a HD converter box. With this method, you do not hook the Wii up to the television itself, but rather connect the Wii to the HDTV through the converter box. To do this, you need to use the component cables that come with the Wii as well as an HDMI cable. You need to find an HDMI cable on your own, because the Wii does not ship with one.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the rectangular end of the Wii's component cable to the "Digital AV Out" slot, found on the back of the Wii console itself.

    • 2

Connect the colored plugs on the other end of the component cable (the three video plugs are colored red, green and blue, while the two audio plugs are colored red and white) and insert them into the corresponding colored jacks on the HD converter box (for example, insert the green plug into the green jack on the converter box).

Connect one end of your HDMI cable to the HDMI slot on the converter box (it should be labeled "HDMI"), then connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI slot on the television. (Again, it should be labeled "HDMI," though the exact placement of this slot depends on your model of television.)
