Wii Fit Description & Other Specifications

Nintendo's "Wii Fit" video game from 2008 was the first exercise game of its kind to utilize a Wii apparatus called the balance board. Players perform activities while standing or moving on the balance board, which translates that movement to a character on the screen. The game provides instructions for each exercise. It also has a line chart that represents the player's fitness progress. It is suitable for people age 3 and over.
  1. Play Requirements

    • "Wii Fit" requires a television, a Nintendo Wii, and the balance board. A standard Wii remote is also essential for menu navigation and some of the activities. "Wii Fit" is a health and fitness game that involves lots of physical movement. Most of the games are performed entirely on the balance board, but the board must be set up with enough room behind and on both sides of the board to stretch out if necessary.

    Balance Board

    • The balance board is pressure sensitive and wireless. The board is 511 mm wide, 316 mm long and 53.2 mm thick. It requires four AA batteries. Without batteries it weighs 3.5 kg. It must be set on the floor 3 feet in front of the TV screen. The board sensors detects the users weight and any body shifts and feeds the information to the game. On-screen prompts explain how to use the balance board in each activity.

    Tracking Fitness

    • Input information such as your height and the board will detect your weight and calculate your body mass index. From this point on, "Wii Fit" will track the progress you make on each of its exercises and encourage or advise you based on your performance over time. It can track the fitness progress of up to eight people at a time.

    Activities

    • The broader training categories are aerobic exercises, yoga, balance games and muscle workouts. They focus on different areas such as weight loss, muscle toning and stamina. Some specific titles include "Hula Hoop," "Press-up Challenge," and "Rhythm Boxing." The progress you make with each exercise category can be tracked in the "Wii Fit" channel on the Wii dashboard, which can be viewed without the game disc in the console.
