Tips on Cooking Mama for Wii

"Cooking Mama" is a game originally released for the Nintendo DS. It made its debut on the Nintendo Wii with "Cooking Mama: Cook Off" in March 2007. Players use unique hand motions to execute recipes. Along the way, players can unlock new recipes and are awarded medals based on game performance.
  1. Stirring

    • Stirring on the game is one of the more difficult steps to master due to the way the Wii-mote responds to your motions. The game recommends turning the Wii-mote upside down and stirring, but you can also point at the screen while stirring to keep your cursor on-screen.

    Stir Fry

    • Stir fry requires attention to detail. You must add the ingredients one at a time until they are all cooked. The game lists them from left to right, with the ingredients that take longest on the left and the quickest on the right. Move the remote back and forth to keep the ingredients moving so they don't burn.

    Peeling

    • Peeling is one of the most precise actions you will complete during the game. The item (usually a vegetable such as a carrot) is displayed on screen and you must take the Wii-mote and peel downward. The key is to ensure that you completely peel the piece. If you stop midway, you will have to go back up to the top of the item to finish the peel and may run out of time.

    Practice Mode

    • Cooking Mama gives you instructions in between each step for the recipe but they can be brief and may not always make much sense. If you feel stumped on a recipe and cannot master a step, try going to practice mode. This will allow you to complete the steps an unlimited amount of times, in any order.

    Pounding Rice

    • Pounding rice requires you to hit the rice with a mallet. Be careful, though, because in between hits, a hand will appear to knead. If you hit the hand, you will have to wait for the person to remove their hand, costing you precious time. Try to hit as the hand is pulling back until you get into a comfortable rhythm.
