How to Repair a Wii Laser Focus

When you insert a game disc into your Wii gaming console an internal laser reads the information on the disc and allows it to play. Like any other electrical component in your Wii, it's possible for this laser to stop functioning properly. If your Wii laser isn't working right, chances are it is due to dust or debris on the laser eye.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your Wii and unplug the power cable. Remove all cables from the rear of the unit.

    • 2

Turn the Wii on its side (so that the side with the two plastic panels is exposed) and pop the panels up and remove them.

    • 3

Turn the Wii on its opposite side (so that the serial number sticker is exposed) and pop the rubber pads off of the screws around the serial number sticker.

    • 4

Remove the five screws on the side of the Wii.

    • 5

Turn the Wii upside down and remove the screws on the corners of the bottom of the unit.

    • 6

Remove the remaining screws on the side of the Wii where you removed the panels. Remove the black panel from the side of the Wii.

    • 7

Remove the faceplate from the front of the Wii.

    • 8

Remove the top case of the Wii to expose the internal components of the unit.

    • 9

Remove the screws on the corners of the metal housing covering the disc driver and remove the housing.

    • 10

Remove the screws on the four corners of the disc drive and lift the top of the disc drive up and turn it over. The circular laser lens will now be exposed.

    • 11

Clean the surface of the laser lens of any dust and debris with your microfiber cloth. Reverse the steps for reassembly of the unit.
