How to Repair Scratched Wii Game Discs

The Wii uses a laser to read the game discs, so scratches in the bottom surface of the disc can cause skipping. If your Wii has problems with stuttering audio or video, or won't read the disc at all, check the disc for scratches. Light scratches can be repaired by sanding down the surface of the bottom of the disc with a light abrasive. This makes it easier for the laser to read the damaged area.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the location of the scratches. Scratches on the label side of the disc cannot be repaired because the data is missing.

    • 2

Clean the disc surface first with a dampened microfiber cloth. It might be smudges on the disc surface causing it not to read correctly. Light scratches may not need to be repaired, since the laser can read through them. After cleaning the disc, try to play the game and see if it works.

    • 3

Put down a towel or soft cloth and place the disc on top, label side down.

    • 4

Squeeze a small amount of toothpaste or brass polishing compound onto the disc.

    • 5

Rub the disc gently with a microfiber cloth, starting at the hole and working your way toward the edge. The scratches should start to diminish.

    • 6

Rinse the disc with water and dry it with a soft cloth. Test the disc in your Wii by playing the game.
