How to Take Apart the Guitar for Rock Band on the Wii

Wii controllers can be taken apart should you need to check the connections for any reason. With the guitar controllers, it can be necessary to take apart the guitar apparatus in order to ensure the wiring is in place or to clean the connectors to enhance the performance of the device. Like with any other electronic accessories, you want to be careful in order to make sure the guitar will still work when you put it back together. These instructions work for both "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" controllers for the Wii.

Things You'll Need

  • Small Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Torx screwdriver, T10 or T6
  • Magnet
  • Flat-head screwdriver

Instructions

    • 1

Detach the neck from the base of the guitar. This is done by flipping the unlock switch on the back of the guitar and gently pulling the neck off the guitar.

    • 2

Pull the plastic faceplate off the front of the guitar. This will reveal the screws you need to remove in order to get the guitar open.

    • 3

Unscrew all the screws. There should be four Phillips screws and 10 Torx screws. You will know which Torx screws you have by the number of sides in the opening -- it will either be six or 10. Peel back the warranty sticker to get to the head of the final screw, No. 11.

    • 4

Use a magnet to remove each of the screws. This will keep you from losing them inside the casing. Keep the screws in a safe place so you can replace them when you want to put the casing back together.

    • 5

Pull the two halves apart. You can use a flat-head screwdriver to help pry the parts in the beginning but be gentle in order to protect the plastic.
