Instructions
Turn on your Wii Remote. Point your Wii Remote at the screen and move it around. Check to see whether this action moves the cursor on the screen. If not, follow the cord from the sensor bar to the Wii console to ensure it is fully connected. Make sure no objects are blocking the sensor bar from "seeing" the Wii Remote signal. Move any interfering objects out of the way.
Change the batteries in your Wii Remote to ensure they are fresh. A working controller with fresh batteries will be able to move through menus.
Use a different Wii Remote to check whether a problem exists with the original controller's signal. If the new Wii Remote works, buy a replacement for the old one.
Press the "Power" or "Reset" button to reset a system that is completely frozen. If these buttons don't work, unplug the power cord to reset the console. While the console is unplugged, check the air vents and buttons for dirt. Replug the power cord and try the Wii again.
Use a Nintendo-licensed controller to make sure third-party accessories aren't causing the problem. Unlicensed products are not guaranteed to be compatible with the Wii and may result in unique problems.
Check your game disk for scratches if menu problems occur only on a specific game. Clean damaged disks using a soft cotton cloth, wiping in straight strokes. If problems persist with only that game, replace the damaged disk entirely.
