How to Win Wii Sports

"Wii Sports" has numerous games that simulate sporting events through the use of the Wii remote. Each of these games requires its own set of controls with the remote, and with this comes individual strategies for how to play the games. Beating your opponent, whether it is the computer or other human opponents, will take practice above all else. There are also a few tips you can learn, though these can vary depending on your skiils.

Instructions

  1. Baseball

    • 1

Mix up your pitches when on the mound and know how to use each of them. Holding the "A" button while moving the remote forward to throw a screwball; holding the "B" button throws a curve.

    • 2

Avoid taking pitches when you are at bat. In most cases, you'll only get a ball called if it is way inside to the batter.

    • 3

Aim the remote to hit the ball in the center and swing the remote as hard as possible. Try to clear the infield every time, as you'll be easily out if a fielder gets to the ball quickly.

    • 4

Score as many runs as quickly as possible. The game has an automatic mercy rule if you lead by five runs after an inning.

    Bowling

    • 5

Move your player all the way to the same side as your throwing hand so the on-screen dashes are beside the gutter.

    • 6

Press and hold the "A" button and move the player back so the dotted line touches the head pin (the pin at the front and center) and the second pin.

    • 7

Swing the remote to try and throw a straight ball with as much speed as possible. If all of this is done correctly, you can hit a strike every time.

    Tennis

    • 8

Tap the "A" button slightly to lob the ball up when you are serving and then start your swing with the remote a half-second later. This should aid you in getting the strongest serve possible.

    • 9

Learn how to use each possible stroke. Twisting the remote so the buttons go from face up to down gives you forehand topspin, while swinging upward and away from the sensor gives you forehand slice; the reverse of these moves give backhand topspin/slice. A straight upward swing lobs the ball.

    • 10

Mix up your shots, especially if you are playing against another human opponent. You can catch your opponent off guard with a surprise shot.

    Golf

    • 11

Use the "1" button on the remote frequently to help you see the slopes on the course and the severity of them -- from the least slope to the harshest, they go from dark green to bright yellow. This helps greatly with chipping and putting.

    • 12

Take practice swings frequently until you know for certain how hard you need to swing each time. At the same time, learn where the remote pauses at both ends of the swing to better control the shot.

    • 13

Check the wind, noting how hard it is blowing and from which direction, and adjust properly.

    • 14

Practice and learn the layout of each hole to develop how to best play it. On Hole 1, for example, aim straight for the hole on the first shot and then aim for the edge of the green on the second.

    Boxing

    • 15

Stick to a basic combination of 1-2 jabs with the remote and nunchuck controllers. Add hooks and uppercuts along with dodging and blocking to get a feel for these moves when you'll need them later.

    • 16

Hit a left punch followed by a right to the head as soon as the round starts. If you successfully hit these, you can often get so far ahead that you can wear down your opponent with 1-2 punch combos.

    • 17

Use low-right hooks over and over if you are falling behind; your opponent rarely dodges these. To throw these punches, aim the remote down and to the right at 45 degrees. This strategy works as long as your skill points are below 1,600.

    • 18

Increase your aggressiveness in the later fights, as you opponents will be. Punch repeatedly without letting up, aim for the head if possible and switch locations if you're frequently blocked. Punch back immediately if you successfully block a punch.
