Initializing the EQ-660
Once you receive the EQ-660 from your service provider, setup is simple. Plug the power cord into the unit and then into an available (preferably surge protected) outlet. All of the lights on the unit should cycle, indicating that it will be ready for use. Since the unit is used for DSL setups, it will also have a phone cord plugged into it. You will have one open port left, which is a LAN (or Ethernet) port for network connectivity.
Connecting Just the Wii
If the only Internet-capable device in the place of residence is the Nintendo Wii, an Ethernet (CAT-5 or CAT-6) cable will occupy the final available port on the EQ-660 and run to the Wii. Since there is no built in Ethernet port on the Wii, you'll also have to obtain a USB to network adapter for the Wii from a local electronics store. The adapter will plug into one of the available USB ports on the back and then the Ethernet cable will plug into it.
Connecting a Wireless Router
If there are multiple units that will be connecting to the EQ-660, another device will need to be installed between the router and the Wii. Depending on the variety of other devices, a hub (available with various port capabilities) or a wireless router can be put in place. If the Wii (or other devices) is located a long distance from the EQ-660, a wireless router would suit the situation best. Otherwise, a cluster of devices local to one area could suffice with a multi-port hub.
Enabling the Wii and Gaming
With the Wii powered up, a settings menu is accessible by clicking on the gear at the bottom right of the main screen. In the settings menu, connection settings can be found and initiated. A wired setup is typically easier to configure; merely alerting the Wii of its availability has it up and running. Wireless setup consists of giving the Wii the network name and password, plus other optional settings.
