My Wii Remote Controllers Won't Connect

The Nintendo Wii console features specialized motion controls via the Wii remote controller. In order to experience optimal gameplay, your Wii remote must be successfully synchronized with the console. When the synchronization between the Wii remote and console fails, the controller will cease responding and the lights on the remote will flash briefly when a button is pressed before going out. Clearing the synchronization data of your Wii and re-synching the remote can be used to remedy this issue. In addition, the process of resynchronizing a Wii remote can be used to synchronize new remotes with the console.

Instructions

  1. Clearing Synchronization Data

    • 1

Power off the Wii console by holding the "Power" button on the front of the system. Unplug the console. Wait a few seconds before plugging it back into your wall outlet. Press the "Power" button to restart the console.

    • 2

Open the flap on the front of the Wii console.

    • 3

Press the red button marked "SYNC" inside the flap, and hold the button down for approximately 15 seconds to reset the synchronization data within the console.

    Synchronizing a Wii Remote

    • 4

Remove the battery cover on your Wii remote.

    • 5

Press the small red button located near the batteries in the Wii remote. The series of blue lights on the front of the remote will begin to blink.

    • 6

Press the red "SYNC" button located under the flap on the front of the Wii console. The remote and the console will attempt to synchronize with each other. Once the process is complete, the lights on the remote will stop blinking, with a single light remaining lit to indicate the controller's player number, and the controller will be successfully connected.
