How to Tell What Chip You Have on Your Wii

Wii chips are electronic devices that can disable or change the restrictions of the Wii. They physically change the Wii's DVD drive. These chips, which are often referred to as drive chips, make it possible to play third party games on the Wii. The serial number indicates what kind of chip is inside the Wii.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the Wii over and look for a white sticker with a number on it that looks like a UPC code. It is just above the power plug. The serial number starts with the letter L.

    • 2

Call up the Wii Drive Chip Database.

    • 3

Look under the "Serial Number" column. Find and click on the serial number's first five digits in the list.

    • 4

Look in the purple area labeled DVD drive chip in the next screen. This is the chip in the Wii.
