How to Color a Wii Wrist Strap

The Wii console has long been promoted as a hub for social play, with games like "Wii Sports" and "Rock Band" bringing gamers together in one room rather than through online play. Central to your Wii experience is the controller: the Wii remote, or Wiimote, as it is sometimes called. Everyone needs a remote, and you can personalize it by saving your Mii avatar directly to the controller. You can take the personalization a step further by dyeing your remote's safety strap.

Things You'll Need

  • Fabric dye (RIT Dye recommended)
  • Wiimote wrist strap(s)
  • Latex gloves

Instructions

    • 1

      Remove the Wiimote's wrist strap.

    • 2

Bring one cup of water to a boil if dyeing one strap at a time; two cups if dyeing two straps.

    • 3

Add the contents of the dye packet, and mix thoroughly.

    • 4

Add one or two Wii remote straps at a time to the dye mixture.

    • 5

Work the plastic grip back and forth down the length of the strap with gloved hands. This will keep the color even throughout and avoid a white or light spot under the plastic grip.

    • 6

Remove the strap from the dye bath.

    • 7

Rinse in cold water until the water runs clear.

    • 8

Wash the pot immediately to avoid staining.

    • 9

Allow the strap to dry completely before re-applying it to the Wii controller to avoid staining the remote itself.
