Connect the router's power cable to the back of the router, then plug the other end of the cable into the wall.
Plug an Ethernet cable into the "Internet" or "WLAN" port on the back of the router, then plug the other end of that cable into the Ethernet port on the back of your modem.
Insert one end of an Ethernet cable into one of the numbered ports on the back of the router, then connect the other end to the Ethernet port on your computer.
Open an internet browser on your computer, then type the IP address for your router into the address bar at the top of the screen. For example, on many Linksys routers, the IP address is "192.168.1.1".
Type your username and password into the appropriate fields on the login screen, then press the "Enter" key on your keyboard.
Click inside the field next to "Router Name:" and type a new name for your router. The router name can be anything you want. Select the "Save Settings" button at the bottom of the screen after changing the name.
Select the "Wireless" tab at the top of the screen, then click inside the text field located next to "Wireless Network Name" and type a new name for your wireless network. This value, called the "SSID", is going to be how you identify your network. Click the "Save Settings" button when you are done.
Click the "Wireless" tab at the top of the screen, then click the "Wireless Security" option located underneath it.
Select the drop down menu next to "Security Mode" and choose the "WPA Personal" option.
Click inside the text box located next to "WPA Shared Key" and create the password for your wireless network. Click the "Save Settings" button at the bottom of the screen.
Turn on your Nintendo Wii, then use a Wii controller to select the "Wii" option at the lower left corner of the screen.
Select the "Wii Settings" option, then click the right arrow on the next screen and choose the "Internet" option.
Click "Connection 1", then select the "Wireless Connection" option.
Select the "Search for an Access Point" option, then choose the wireless network you just created.
Enter the password you created, then click the "OK" button.
Select the "Save Settings" option, then the "Yes" option to complete the addition of your Nintendo Wii to a protected wireless network.
