Things You'll Need
Instructions
Push the power button on a Wii Remote or the Wii console to turn the system on. Press the "A" button when prompted to accept the initial warning information and access the main Wii menu.
Click the "Wii Options" button in the lower-left corner of the screen. Choose the "Wii Settings" option on the right when the options type selection screen appears, then click the "Internet" button on the second page of settings categories to access your console's Internet options.
Click the "Connection Settings" button at the top of the screen to access the Wii's Internet connection options. Select "Connection 1" to establish a new Internet connection for the console, then choose either the "Wireless Connection" option or the "Wired Connection" option depending on the type of Internet connection you want to establish.
Connect a Wii Ethernet Adapter to the console if using a wired connection, then plug an Ethernet cable into the adapter and click the "OK" button to start the connection test. If using a wireless connection, click the "Search for an Access Point" button, then select the wireless network you want to connect to once the search is complete. Enter the security key or network password for the network you are using if prompted to do so, then save your settings and start a connection test.
Update your Wii firmware by performing a Wii System Update once the connection test is complete. Wait while the Wii downloads and installs the update, a process that may take several minutes depending on the speed of your Internet connection. Return to the main Wii menu after the update is complete.
Open the "Wii Shop Channel" by clicking its icon on the main Wii menu. Wait while your Wii connects to the channel over the Internet, then accept the terms of service to begin using the channel. Choose the "Wii Channels" option from the Wii Shop Channel menu, then find "Internet Channel" in the list and click the "Download" button. Confirm that you wish to download the channel, then wait while it is downloaded and installed on your Wii console.
Return to the main Wii menu. Your Wii is now set up to use the Internet connection you selected, and you can use the Internet Channel to browse the Internet directly from your Wii console.
