The SD Card Is Not Recognized by My Wii

The Nintendo Wii gaming system has the ability to save information, such as game files and downloadable content, to a flash-based SD memory card. The Wii has a built-in SD memory card reader located on the front of the system. If your Nintendo Wii isn't recognizing a memory card, your console has yet to be updated to the 4.0 version of the "Wii Menu" software.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn on the Wii.

    • 2

Open the "Wii System Settings" menu on the home screen.

    • 3

Locate "Wii System Update" in the "Wii System Settings" menu. This is on the third page of the menu, which you can find by using the "Next" button to flip through the menu pages. Select "Wii System Update" using the controller's "A" button.

    • 4

Select "Yes" when you are prompted to confirm your choice. Read through the "Terms of Service," and select "I Agree." The newest version of the Wii Menu software downloads, and the Wii reboots. When it starts back up, it will recognize your SD card.
