My Wii Controller Won't Sync

The Nintendo Wii gaming system uses a remote controller called the Wiimote. This remote is connected to the system wirelessly and mirrors your movements, allowing you the freedom to move around and enhance your gaming experience. There are some instances when your Wiimote might lose connection with the console. If this happens, you will need to troubleshoot the controller and reestablish a connection before you can play again.

  Open the back panel of the Wiimote and replace the batteries with two, fresh AA batteries. Close the panel and press the "A" button, the remote should connect.

  Check the sensor bar for correct placement. Ensure that the sensor bar plug is inserted into the sensor bar connector on the back of the console. Ensure that the sensor bar is mounted securely, and that the center of the sensor bar is aligned with the center of the TV. The sensor bar should not be placed below the surface that the sensor bar is sitting on. It should be aligned close to the front edge of the TV. Press "A" and the Wii pointer should appear and the remote should be connected.

  Stand between 3 and 10 feet away from the sensor bar. Press "A," then tap the buttons on the controller and move the Wiimote back and forth. The Wii pointer should show up and move in unison with your movements.

  Remove any objects that might be blocking the signals between the sensor bar, the Wii console, and the Wiimote. Press "A" and the Wii pointer should appear.

  Remove any interference from heat such as candles, sunlight, fireplaces, and stoves. Check for electromagnetic interference such as cordless phones, cell phones, wireless keyboards and mice. Move these interferences or turn them off, then press the "A" button on the Wiimote to reconnect.

  Turn off the Wii console by pressing and holding the "Power" button on the front of the console. Unplug the power cord for a few seconds, then plug it back in and power on the console. Open the small front cover on the system and press the red "Sync" button and hold for 15 seconds. This will clear all remote syncs to the system. Next, open the back cover to the Wiimote, press and release the small red "Sync" button under the batteries. The blue lights at the bottom of the Wiimote will blink. Then press and release the red "Sync" button on the console. Once the blue lights stop blinking and stays lit, the syncing is complete. Replace the cover and press "A" and the Wiimote should be connected to the console.
