How to Paint a Wii

Unplug the Wii and remove all wires from it. Remove any plug-in controllers and memory cards from the top of the unit so you can close the top hatch. Remove the Wii from its plastic stand, leaving nothing but the plain, white unit.

Sand the outer casing lightly with fine sandpaper; this will help the acrylic paint adhere to it. Do not sand any areas other than the white plastic.

Draw circles or ovals of varying sizes on the masking tape while it's still on the roll. You will use these to cover all the vents, ports and other holes in the casing of the unit, leaving an outline shape that's still attractive. If you like, use star or heart shapes, or whatever outlines you think will look good with your paint job. The patches will remain white and unpainted on the Wii, so incorporate them into your design.

Cut out the shapes from the tape with scissors. Place them on the vents, ports and buttons of the Wii. You may want to cover the front of the unit entirely, leaving it unpainted.

Outline your painting design on the Wii with a permanent marker. If you make a mistake, dampen a cotton swab in nail polish remover and wipe it away.

Mix your acrylic paint to a thick consistency. Ideally, it should be about the consistency of liquid soap or thicker, as this will minimize dripping.

Apply the paint to the Wii with a dry (or mostly dry) brush. Again, this minimizes dripping. After rinsing your brush, press it firmly against a dry rag or paper towel to squeeze out the water before you continue.

Let the paint dry overnight.

Peel the masking tape off the unit carefully.
