How to Jailbreak My Wii

The Wii system is, by default, locked to accept only games licensed by Nintendo. Jailbreaking modifies parts of the software of the Wii to be able to load the numerous games for Wii and GameCube that were coded by groups without the financial backing to purchase certification from Nintendo.

Things You'll Need

SD card
SD card reader on your computer

Instructions

  Download the bannerbomb version necessary for your version of the Wii Menu onto your computer. V1 for Wii Menu 4.1 and under and V2 for Wii Menu 4.2 only.

  Insert your SD card into your computer reader and rename the "Private" folder on the card if you have one to "Private_old."

  Right click on the bannerbomb ZIP file and select "Extract all" or the "Extract to..." function to extract the file. Copy the "Private" folder that was extracted on your SD card.

  Download the HackMii installer and double click on the zip file. Copy the boot.elf file on the root of your SD card.

  Go to your Wii and turn it on. Go to the SD menu on your Wii. For bannerbomb V1, it is "Wii Options" then "Data Management" then "Channels" then "SD Card." For bannerbomb V2, go to the SD Card Menu on the "Main Menu" screen.

  Press "OK" to Jailbreak your Wii when the "Load boot.elf" dialog box appears.
