Nintendo Wii Will Not Read Disc

It's never a fun experience to start up your Nintendo Wii console and get ready to enjoy some gaming only to find out that the console isn't reading the game disc. This can be especially frustrating if you don't know much about computers. Luckily there are ways to troubleshoot the system that should have you gaming in no time.

Instructions

Press the circular blue button in the center of the Wii controller to return to the main menu screen. If you have ejected a game disc in the middle of game play this may be the reason you have received an "Unable to read the disc" error message and you need to be back to the main menu before inserting a new disc. If this isn't the problem, proceed to the next step.

    • 2

Verify that the Wii console isn't upside down. The disc slot in the front of the console should be above the three buttons and the card slot. If you stand the Wii console on its side the disc should be inserted with the label facing to the right. If this doesn't fix the problem proceed to the next step.

Use a disc cleaning kit (available from most electronics store) to clean the surface of your game disc in order to clear it of any minor scratches, scuffs or dirt.
