How to Increase the Weight Limit for a Wii Balance Board

The Wii Balance Board is a sensitive piece of equipment designed by Nintendo to withstand pressures of up to 600 pounds. Even with its ability to withstand that much force due to players jumping on it, the weight limit in which the balance board can accurately measure is 330 pounds or 149.6 kilograms. Weight sensors on the bottom of the board allow the board to measure your weight. By adding a sheet of folded foam, you can increase the springiness of board and trick the sensor into an inaccurate measurement of your weight.

Things You'll Need

  • Sheet of Foam (4 ft. by 2 ft.)
  • Scissors or Sharp Bladed Tool

Instructions

    • 1

Fold a piece of foam, 4 feet by 2 feet, in half.

    • 2

Cut the four corners of the foam board into squares so the legs of the Wii Balance Board can fit easily in the cutouts. For best results and accuracy, use a pair of heavy-duty scissors or a sharp-bladed tool.

    • 3

Put the Wii Balance board over the foam board. The balance board should rest on the foam board with the legs touching the ground.

    • 4

Step onto the Wii Balance board and begin the game. If you are over the weight limit of the game before placing a sheet of foam underneath the board, try again with the sheet of foam and see if the balance board responds to your movements.
