How to Change the Wii Version 3.3 to 3.2

Nintendo released a downloadable upgrade for its Wii system menu in 2008. This upgraded system menu, version 3.3, fixed vulnerabilities within the Wii system. One effect of this change is that some user-created software would not run once the Wii was updated. Many users regretted updating their systems, not realizing that they would no longer have this capability. Although the Wii will not allow you to downgrade your system, users created programs to override this, so they could return to their previous operating system of version 3.2.

Instructions

Consider when you purchased your Nintendo Wii. Beginning in March 2009, Wii consoles were released with version 4 pre-installed. These newer Wiis have upgraded hardware, and are not compatible with version 3.2. Attempting to downgrade the system can cause serious problems. If you had version 3.2 in the past and you updated it to 3.3, you will be able to install it again. If your Wii is new and you've never had Version 3.2, do not proceed.

Download Wii downgrading software on your home computer. Save the program to an SD card.

    • 3

Insert the SD card into your Wii. The Wii will read the SD card. Navigate to the downgrading software and install it. Restart your Wii.

    • 4

Open the Homebrew Channel. The program you installed should appear in the Homebrew menu. Open the program. Tt will give you a list of previous Wii versions. Select version 3.2.

Follow the installation directions for the program. Restart your Wii. It should now operate using version 3.2.
