Find a "Save Point." Certain video games (mainly role playing games, like Square Enix's popular "Final Fantasy" series) only allow you to save your game progress at certain points. Look inside the manual that came with your game for information on what a save point looks like in the specific game that you're playing. When you come across one during regular game play, move your on-screen character directly onto it to save.
Press the "Start" button. Certain Nintendo Wii games that allow you to save at any point during game play do so from the "Start" menu. Pressing "Start" brings up the game's regular service menu. From here, you can select the "Save" option and either create a new save file to store your progress or update an existing save file that has been created earlier.
Watch for the "Auto Save" indicator to appear on screen. Certain Nintendo Wii video games automatically save your game for you after you pass certain obstacles in the game. This is similar in concept to a "Save Point" because you can only save at certain times, but easier because the game automatically creates and maintains the file and you don't have to do anything. Look inside the manual that came with your game for information on what your "Save" indicator icon looks like, and then watch for it to appear on screen.
