My Wii Controller Will Not Sync With the Unit

The controllers for Nintendo's Wii console (officially dubbed "Wii-motes") are wireless in nature. Instead of using a long cable to connect to the console like the NES, SNES, Nintendo 64 and other consoles of the past, these controllers sync with the Wii using a wireless connection similar to the way your computer connects to a wireless Internet connection. This lets you move freely about the area and still control your console.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand between three and 10 feet away from your television set. If you stand too close or too far away from your TV, the Wii may have trouble recognizing the signal from your Wii-mote which is required to sync both devices together. Standing too far or too close may also give you problems during game play if the controller does manage to sync to the console.

Press the "Sync" buttons on both the Wii-mote and on the front of the actual Wii console. Both buttons must be pressed to properly sync a Wii-mote to your Wii. The "Sync" button on the Wii console is located on the front panel beneath a small utility cover. This same compartment that houses the "Sync" button also houses the Wii's SD card reader.

Replace your Wii-mote's batteries. The Wii-mote's batteries do not have an infinite lifespan. Just because you've just unpacked your Wii for the first time doesn't mean the batteries will necessarily have a charge. Either replace the batteries with new ones or charge them if you've chosen to use rechargeable batteries. Once this battery situation is taken care of, attempt to sync your Wii-mote to your Wii once again by repeating Steps 1 through 2.
