How to Use an Ethernet on the Wii

The Nintendo Wii includes a built-in wireless adapter that supports only wireless connections. Using the separate Wii Lan Adapter, you can connect the Wii online via an Ethernet connection. Once connected, you will have access to online matchmaking (in games that support it) and the Wii Shop Channel (the Wii's content distribution service).

Wii LAN adapter
Ethernet cable

  Turn off the Wii. Connect the Wii LAN Adpater to the USB port on the back of the Wii. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable into the "Ethernet" port on the Wii LAN Adapter and connect the opposite end into the "Ethernet" port on your broadband modem or router.

  Turn on the Wii. Select the "Wii" icon at the bottom of the Wii Channel Menu. Select "Wii Settings." Select the right arrow on the screen to access Wii System Settings 2. Select "Internet."

  Select "Connection Settings." Select "Connection 1." Select "Wired Connection." Select "OK" to begin a connection test. If the test is successful, the Wii will be connected online. If the test is unsuccessful, the reason and most likely solution will be displayed on screen.
