How to Slow Down a Wii Remote Controller

Wii remotes can sometimes cause the cursor or pointer to move too quickly across the screen, interfering with choosing a game or making game-play difficult. Several factors can interfere with a Wii controller's speed, including the need for synchronization to the console, high sensor-bar settings or nearby electronics interfering with the remote. When the Wii cursor acts erratically or moves too fast, try syncing the remote to the console. If that fails, adjust the sensor-bar settings.

Instructions

  1. Sync Wii Remote to Console

    • 1

Sync the Wii remote to the Wii gaming console. Turn on the console and open the SD card slot. Locate the red "Sync" button.

    • 2

Remove the back of the Wii remote's battery compartment to expose the small "Sync" button, located on the lower-right side, beneath the batteries.

    • 3

Press the "Sync" button on the remote until the "Player LED" light blinks. Immediately press the "Sync" button on the console. Check to see whether the remote is behaving properly. If not, try adjusting the sensor-bar settings.

    Adjust the Sensor-Bar Settings

    • 4

Use the controller to access the Wii system settings. Point to "Wii Settings" on the "Wii Channel" menu screen, which appears when the console is first turned on. Press "A" on the remote to open the settings options.

    • 5

Locate the tab titled "Sensor Bar" and click "A" on the Wii remote. This will open the settings for the Wii sensor bar, which works in conjunction with the Wii controllers.

    • 6

Choose your sensor bar position from the sensor-bar options screen. If your sensor bar is set high, above your television, select "Above TV" and "Confirm." If the sensor bar is set low, beneath the TV, select "Below TV," press the "A" button and choose "Confirm." This will bring you to the "Sensor Bar Sensitivity" settings page.

    • 7

Adjust the sensitivity of the sensor bar. The screen will show a box with two blinking dots. If your settings are set too high or too low, you'll experience issues with how the Wii remote interacts with the console. Press the "-" button on the remote until the two dots appear in the test area of the screen. To save the settings, press "A" and "Confirm" on the remote.
