How to Use the Wii to Access Any Website

The Nintendo Wii set the world of interactive home entertainment on fire when it introduced its Wii console prior to the holiday shopping season in November of 2006. While the revolutionary design of the Wii made interactive gaming the wave of the future, the console has value in several other applications as well. The Wii features an internal Wi-Fi adapter, giving it the ability to access the user's home network. With the ability to connect to the Internet via the internal Wi-Fi adapter, you can connect to Nintendo's servers for updates and downloadable content, as well as use the Wii to browse the Internet.

Connect to the Internet via your Nintendo Wii. If your home has a wireless connection, your Wii can connect to the Internet via your wireless router in any room in your home. If you are connected to the Internet via a wired modem through your cable or telephone provider, you will have to connect the Ethernet cable to the back of your modem. Next, connect the other end of the cable to the designated Ethernet port on your Nintendo Wii console.

Use your Wii Remote to connect to the Wii Shop channel. When your Wii is initially powered on, you will be presented with a variety of menu options. Choose the "Wii Shop" channel and scroll down until you find "Internet Channel." This channel is free and does not cost you any Wii Points. Download the Internet Channel. When the download is complete, you can use the Internet Channel to browse the Internet to view almost any website you'd like, depending on your wireless network's security settings. Nintendo has a USB-based keyboard and mouse available for purchase that can make browsing the Internet on the Wii simpler, but you also can simply use the Wii's included remote to "type" by pointing at letters and numbers on the pop-up keyboard that will appear on your television's screen.
