How to Back Up Dual Layer Wii Games

The Nintendo Wii plays video games off game discs that are formatted in much the same way that PC game discs are. This allows a PC copy program to copy a Wii game disc in the same manner as that of a PC game. PC copy programs are available at varying prices and levels of sophistication, but they all function in the same manner to make a computer file from the contents on the disc. You can back up a legally owned double-layer Wii game for archiving by using a PC copy program.

Instructions

    • 1

Download a PC copy program to your PC's desktop. Some program examples are Blindwrite or Alcohol 129% or CloneCD (see Resources). Double-click the file once downloaded to start the installation process. Follow the onscreen menus to complete the installation. Restart the PC.

    • 2

Eject the disc tray of the DVD drive, place the Wii game disc on the tray and close the tray. If a laptop is being used, insert the Wii game disc into the front-loading slot instead.

    • 3

Launch the PC copy program by selecting it from the "Start" > "All Programs" pop-up menu.

    • 4

Select the DVD drive from, depending upon the peculiarities of the program, the "Source" drop-down menu on the program's main screen or by selecting the drive from a window that appears after clicking "Open" from the "File" drop-down menu at the top of the program.

    • 5

Choose the desktop to save the file that will be made from the disc by selecting it from the "Destination" drop-down menu on the program's main screen or from the "Locations" drop-down menu in the window that appears after clicking "Save to" from the "File" drop-down menu at the top of the program. The specific sequence will be dictated by the peculiarities of the program.

    • 6

Select "ISO" from the "File type" drop-down menu on the program's main screen or by selecting the check box for it on the window that appears after clicking "Options" at the top of the program. The specific sequence will be dictated by the peculiarities of the program.

    • 7

Click the "Start," "Go" or "Copy" button at the bottom of the program's main screen; the exact button will dictated by the design of the program. A copy progress bar or a pop-up window will now appear to chronicle the progress of the copy.

    • 8

Quit the program when the progress bar has either completely filled in or has disappeared. Right-click the icon of the Wii game disc on the desktop and select "Eject" from the pop-up menu. Eject the disc tray, remove the disc and close the tray, or grip the disc when it is ejected from the front-loading slot.
