How to Hit a Split in a Bowling Game

Splits, though one of the most frustrating elements of bowling, can also be one of the most rewarding. It is fairly difficult to pick up splits, even in bowling video games, but it is not impossible. It will take good ball control and proper positioning, but both are easier to apply to splits in video games than splits on real bowling alleys.

Instructions

  1. Diagonal Splits

    • 1

Choose a target pin. It should be the pin closest to the foul line.

    • 2

Aim the ball toward the edge of your target pin opposite of where the split pin stands. Manipulate spin and release angle to try and hit your mark on the target pin. In Wii "Bowling," press left or right on the "D" pad to position your avatar. Press "A" and the "D" pad to change the release angle the ball.

    • 3

Hold the Wii-mote at an angle when you release the ball. The ball will "spin" in the direction you held the Wii-mote. A good hit will strike the target pin and knock it toward the remaining split pins, hopefully resulting in a strike.

    Parallel Splits

    • 4

Choose a target pin that coincides with your most natural throwing movement. If you normally spin your balls to the left, then go for the pin farthest left of you.

    • 5

Use the Wiimote to adjust spin and release angle toward the target pin.

    • 6

Throw the ball with enough force and spin to hit the edge of the target pin so it moves toward the split pin. Some parallel splits will be close enough that you can move the pin to the side with just the ball. Others will require that you knock your target pin backward against the back wall and hope it bounces back into play and strikes the standing pin.
