How to Restore a Bricked Nintendo Wii

Restoring a bricked Wii --- which is a Wii that no longer boots to the home screen --- can be simple with the right tools. Most modded Wii systems are bricked because of installing updates on your Wii from another region. Regular Wii systems can be bricked because of an error installing a system update, but the most common occurrence is a power outage.

Things You'll Need

  • SaveMii
  • "Mario Party 2" (or any game with system update 4.3 or newer)

Instructions

    • 1

Insert your SaveMii into your Wii's Gamecube memory card slot.

    • 2

      Turn on your Wii.

    • 3

Insert "Mario Party 2" into your Wii. You can also insert any game manufactured after June 21, 2010, because that will bring the required system update 4.3 or newer.

    • 4

Wait for the update to take place. There will be no progress bar or any sign that it is installing. You will know it is working because when you turn on your Wii, you will see on the bottom right side of your screen your system version. Wait four minutes, and your system version will change to your new update, in this case 4.3. The wait can vary; give it a minimum of 10 minutes to see whether something happens before starting the SaveMii installation process again.

    • 5

      Turn off your Wii.

    • 6

      Remove the SaveMii device.

    • 7

Turn on the Wii, and your system will be booting and restored to normal.
