How to Repair Wii Remotes

The Wii was developed by Nintendo as an intuitive way of combining exercise and gameplay. Unlike many consoles made before the Wii, the controller is not directly attached to the console and is used by movement. This means that it is easier to run into problems with your Wii remote, as it cannot simply be fixed by plugging it into the console. Many things can cause problems with the Wii remote, such as electrical interference, infra-red devices or even the Sensor Bar being blocked.

Instructions

    • 1

Check that the Sensor Bar is connected correctly into the back of the Wii console. Place the Sensor Bar in an open area just above or below your television screen. Do not obstruct the Sensor Bar with anything, or the Wii Remote will not be able to communicate with it. Make sure you are not standing too far from the Sensor Bar -- the optimal distance is between three and ten feet.

Check the batteries in the Wii Remote. Take them out and put them into another electrical device to see whether they are fully charged. If they are not, you will need to replace the batteries.

    • 3

Remove any electrical devices that could be causing the Wii Remote to work erratically. You will want to move objects such as cordless phones and wireless computer keyboards. If you have any infra-red light sources, you will want to move those away as well. Look out for candles, sunlight, fireplaces and stoves.

Turn the Wii Remote upside down, with the buttons facing the ground. Tap the side of the remote with the buttons against your hand. Make sure you do not use too much force.
