How to Use Wii Guitar Hero With Rockband

The competition between the Guitar Hero franchise and Rock Band have contributed to massive sales of guitar games on the Nintendo Wii. Guitar Hero's head start on Rock Band -- the first Guitar Hero game came out in 2005, two years before the first Rock Band installment -- has awarded the franchise the lion's share of the guitar game market. Guitar Hero: World Tour sold 3.4 million units in the UK in 2008, compared to the 1.7 million units shifted by Rock Band 2 in the same year.

Instructions

    • 1

Check controller compatibility. Not all Wii Guitar Hero are compatible with all versions of Rock Band. Before playing, it is advisable to check the compatibility of your controller (see Resources for a compatibility table).

    • 2

Synchronize the Wii remote to the console. Press the "Power" button on the console and on the Wii remote to turn them both on. Remove the battery cover on the Wii remote to reveal the sync button. Press this button and watch the light on the console's power button. When this stops flashing and displays a solid light, the controller is synchronized.

    • 3

Insert Wii remote into the Guitar Hero controller. Place the Wii remote into the Guitar Hero controller's slot. It may be necessary to connect the remote by USB before inserting it, depending on the controller.

    • 4

Play the Guitar Hero controller. Press the colored buttons on the neck of the controller when the corresponding color appears on screen. Strike the strumming bar on the body of the controller at the same time, otherwise the game will not register that a button has been pressed.
