How to Program a Wii Controller to My Game System

Unlike Nintendo consoles of the past, the Wii uses wireless controllers to allow users to play games on the system. In order to pair a controller with your system, the two devices must be programmed together. This process is called "syncing" and can be done using the Wii controller (dubbed the "Wii-mote") at any time while both devices are on.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the batteries that came with your Wii-mote into the battery compartment on the bottom of your system. This compartment is accessible through the rear of the Wii-mote.

    • 2

Turn on your Wii. You can only program a controller to your system if the system is actually on.

    • 3

Locate the sync buttons on both your Wii-mote and your Wii console. On the console, the sync button is near the SD memory card slot on the front of the device. On the Wii-mote, the sync button is in the same compartment, on the back of the unit, that the batteries are held in.

    • 4

Press the "Sync" button on your Wii-mote one time. Press the "Sync" button on your Nintendo Wii one time. The lights on both devices will blink for a few seconds, and then stop. The Wii-mote is now programmed to communicate with your Nintendo Wii.
