My Wii Does Not Recognize the Controllers

The Nintendo Wii comes with controllers (or "remotes") that wirelessly sync with your console. You may find that you have some issues with them not syncing up, or syncing but not working properly. There are some steps that you can take to troubleshoot these issues.

Instructions

    • 1

Power down the Wii console by pushing the Power button on the console's front.

    • 2

Unplug the Nintendo Wii power cord from the wall outlet. Count to 15 and plug the cord back in to restore power. This helps reset the Nintendo Wii console unit.

    • 3

Turn on the Nintendo Wii console. Wait for the Health and Safety screen to appear.

    • 4

Open the compartment on the Wii console to locate the red "Sync" button.

    • 5

Press the "Sync" button and hold it down for about 15 seconds. This resets and clears anything that has been previously synced to the console.

    • 6

Sync the Wii remote by pressing and holding down the red button within the battery compartment until the blue lights on the front start to flash. Press the "Sync" button on the front of the Wii Console (the same one you used to clear all synced items) and the Wii remote should light up, indicating the player number accordingly.
