How to Install Homebrew on a Modded Wii

A modded Wii video game console has either been soft modded with a loader such as the Homebrew Channel or with a modchip that enables many features and usually comes pre-installed with a loader such as the Homebrew Channel. A modded Wii can feature applications like the Media Player CE which plays DVDs on the Wii and can even stream movies, pictures and music from your PC. A modded Wii also allows classic video games to be played through emulator programs. Install homebrew on your Wii and turn it into a media player with multiple uses.

Insert a SD or SDHC card into your computer and click on "My Computer." Right-click on the SD card and select "FAT32" as your file system. Keep the "Allocation Unit" size at 4,096 bytes. Check the "Quick Format" box and select "Start" to format and partition your SD card so it can be read by the Nintendo Wii.

Create a folder named "Apps" for homebrew applications, games, emulators and Wii system utilities. Place your files into the "Apps" folder. Some emulators also require a directory be placed on the root of the SD card which contains the emulator ROMS and game-saves folder. The emulators read the ROMS and saves from this root folder.
