How to Change TV Resolution for the Wii

Setting up electronic equipment can sometimes be confusing and even frustrating, especially if you just need to make a change that seems more difficult than it should be. The Nintendo Wii has straightforward options for setup and two options for the video resolution, so changing a screen's resolution is actually not an involved process. In just a few steps, you can adjust the resolution and be ready to use your entertainment system.

Instructions

  1. Physical Setup

    • 1

Find out what resolution to use. This is based on what your TV supports from the Wii's options of 480i and 480p. Since 480p is better, you should try to use that resolution if possible.

    • 2

Ensure you have the correct cables for the resolution you want. For 480i standard resolution, you can use S-video, RCA (composite) or component. For 480p enhanced definition or high resolution, you must use component cable.

    • 3

Connect the cables to your Nintendo Wii and TV if they are not already connected.

    • 4

Turn on your Nintendo Wii and your TV.

    Wii Settings

    • 5

Select the "Wii" button in the Wii Channel menu using your Wii Remote. The button is in the lower left of your screen. This opens the "Wii Menu and System Settings" section.

    • 6

Select "Wii Settings." This is the option with a wrench icon.

    • 7

Select "Screen" under "Wii System Settings 1."

    • 8

      Select "TV Resolution."

    • 9

Choose the correct resolution option, either "EDTV or HDTV (480p)" or "Standard TV (480i)."

    • 10

Select the "Confirm" button to change the resolution.
