How to Use WAD Installer

Nintendo Wii owners with modified consoles have the benefit of being able to install homebrew applications on their consoles. These applications come in the form of .wad files and you must use a WAD Installer program to use them.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the SD card you used to modify your Wii console from the Wii's SD card slot and insert it into the computer's SD card reader. Open the computer's web browser and navigate to a website that offers the WAD Installer application for download. Download the application onto the computer and extract the downloaded files with a program such as WinZip, WinRar or Stuffit Expander.

    • 2

Open the SD card's root directory. Right click and select the "New Folder" option. Name the new folder "apps." Right click and create another new folder. Name the second new folder "wad." Double-click the "apps" folder to open it and create a new folder inside of the "apps" folder. Name this folder "wad manager."

    • 3

Drag the .dol file that you extracted from the downloaded WAD Installer file into the "wad manager" folder. Rename the file "boot.dol." When you are finished, navigate back to the root directory of the SD card.

    • 4

Drag the .wad file you want to install on the Wii console into the "wad" folder in the SD card's root directory.

    • 5

Eject the SD card from the computer's SD card reader and reinsert the SD into the Wii's SD card slot. Turn on the Wii console and load the Homebrew Channel. Select the WAD Manager from the Homebrew channel.

    • 6

Press the "A" button when prompted. Press the "A" button a second time to select the SD card as your source device. Press "Down" on the D-pad until the .wad file you want to install is highlighted. With the .wad file highlighted, press the "+" button on the remote, followed by the "A" button. Wait for the installation to finish. Repeat for any other .wad files you want to install.
