The Legend of Zelda: How to Get Rupees

Rupees are vital for making progress in the "Legend of Zelda" games. They are used to buy new items and equipment in shops, as well as to gain entrance to certain areas, and even to play mini-games in some of the "Zelda" titles.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Attack" button when near bushes or tall grass. Link will execute a spin attack and cut down the foliage. Rupees are often hidden in bushes or the taller grass in the "Zelda" games. Refer to the game's manual to see what the button combination is, as it differs from game to game.

    • 2

Attack any enemies that are encountered. Enemies are a good source of Rupees and should be defeated whenever they are encountered. Not only will they yield health and experience but also Rupees. Generally the more powerful an enemy is, the more Rupees you will receive upon their defeat.

    • 3

Search for treasure chests. These are normally found inside caves or hidden away throughout the game world. You will find Rupees among the treasure hidden inside of them.

    • 4

Break any pots you discover. Picking up a pot and throwing it against an enemy or wall will break it, often revealing Rupees inside.

    • 5

Search underneath rocks and pumpkins. Later games in the series, such as "The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess," will always have a small amount of Rupees hidden underneath these objects.

    • 6

Travel to the forest in "A Link To The Past." Enter by the woodcutter's house and keep traveling until you see a log. Inside the log is a man that will charge you 100 Rupees in order to choose from one of three treasure chests. Select the middle one to gain 300 Rupees. Exit and repeat as many times as you want to get lots of Rupees.

    • 7

Travel to "Outset Island" in "The Wind Waker." Travel to the eastern part of the island near Link's grandmother's house, and then to the cliffs further back from there. Change the wind to east from there, and use the deku leaf to travel to the second cliff. Once you reach it, a secret pot with 100 Rupees will appear. This can be used daily in the game to get more Rupees.
