How to Connect a Wii Console to its Controllers

Connecting a Wii remote control is a simple procedure, even if it may not appear so at the outset. Because the Wii uses a wireless motion-sensing controller, it cannot use wires like other console platforms. It has to connect wirelessly and associate that particular remote control with that particular console. This is so Wii consoles can be used in the same room without interfering with each other or inadvertently connecting during the middle of a game.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the Wii console on by pressing the "Power" button on the top once (or on the side if you have rotated the cosole into the horizontal position). This will bring up the home screen on the Wii; even if you have not already set up your account you can still connect the Wii remote.

    • 2

Put in fresh batteries in the Wii remote by opening the bottom panel on the remote by hand. There will be a little tab that depresses and reveals the battery space. It takes AA batteries. When the batteries are replaced, hit the small red button that is right above where the batteries go. This is the "Sync" button, which tells the remote to broadcast a sync request to nearby consoles.

    • 3

Open the small panel on the Wii console beneath the disc slot. There will be a small red button, press it. It is the sync button that will tell the console to accept sync agreements with any Wii remote that requests one within two minutes. The Wii console and the Wii remote will now "talk" to each other so that only this console will work with this remote.

    • 4

Press the "1" and "2" button on the Wii remote; this will cause the four lights on the button to flash. When they stop, the top light will remain lit, indicating that it is the first player.
