How to Troubleshoot a Nunchuck

The Wii Nunchuck is a peripheral that is attached to the bottom of the Wii Remote with a long cord. On the Nunchuck are two buttons and an analog stick that let players control their in-game characters without using a standard directional pad. If at any time the Nunchuck stops functioning or there are issues such as characters moving on screen without pressing the analog stick, you can troubleshoot the accessory to alleviate the problems.

Instructions

  1. In a Game

    • 1

Turn the game case over for the game you are playing on the Wii.

    • 2

Look at the upper right corner of the game case for a Nunchuck icon. If no icon appears, the peripheral is not compatible with the game.

    • 3

Press the "Home" button the Wii Remote. Highlight "Reset" and press "A" to restart the game. Do this if the Nunchuck is compatible with the game.

    No Function

    • 4

Press the tabs on the left and right side of the plug on the end of the Nunchuck cord that connects it to the Wii Remote. Pull the plug to remove the Nunchuck.

    • 5

Press the "Home" button on the center of the Wii Remote. Check the television screen to see the battery power of the Wii Remote. The Nunchuck uses the power from the Wii Remote, so it should remain fully charged at all times.

    • 6

Remove the battery cover on the back of the Wii Remote and insert two new AA batteries. Close the battery pack. Press the power button on the Wii Remote to turn the controller on.

    • 7

Plug the Nunchuck back into the Wii Remote. Tilt the analog stick to check for movement.

    Unintended Movement

    • 8

Press the tabs on the left and right side of the Nunchuck plug. Pull the plug to remove the Nunchuck from the Wii Remote.

    • 9

Rotate the analog stick on the Nunchuck two or three times. Release the analog stick.

    • 10

Grip the bottom of the Nunchuck. Do not press any buttons on the peripheral or tilt the stick. Plug the Nunchuck back into the Wii Remote. This will recalibrate the peripheral to prevent unintended movement.
