Tips for Spyro for the Wii

Spyro the Dragon is a purple cartoon dragon who stars in a series of video games in which he flies, breathes fire and has exciting adventures as he tries to save his homeland from the forces of evil. While the first games of the Spyro series were introduced as Playstation exclusives, later games in the "Legend of Spyro" series were released on other consoles, including the Nintendo Wii. "The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night" was released in 2007, and "The Legend Of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon" was released in 2008.
  1. Linear Gameplay

    • While you can move Spyro virtually anywhere in the levels via running, gliding or jumping, exploration is merely an extra rather than the game focus. Both of the Spyro games on the Wii have linear gameplay, although they may appear to be very open-ended. Keep an eye out for the level exits because you will not be able to finish any level and advance to the next unless you exit in the proper place.

    Attack Strategy

    • Spyro starts each game with very few attacks in his arsenal but will earn new abilities as you progress through the game stages. Spyro's tail attack is "your basic combat move," according to Game Spot. This is the attack you will need to use often in the beginning stages, at least until you have unlocked other abilities. "Dragon Time," found in "The Eternal Night," is the ability to slow down time for a brief period. This is useful both for battling enemies and solving timed puzzles. In "Dawn of the Dragon," Spyro has Cynder the Dragon as a partner throughout the game. You can switch between controlling the two characters at will. Choose Spyro when you need more powerful attacks and Cynder when you need faster movement.

    Jumps and Flying

    • In "The Eternal Night," double jumps are introduced. While this gameplay feature can be very useful for moving between areas and pouncing on enemies, it can be difficult to master. Precisely time the button press: Wait a quick beat after the first jump is executed, then press the button again. If you press the button too late, you will quickly return to earth. Spyro can hover in "The Eternal Night," but he cannot remain airborne for long periods. To hover for as long as possible, do not change direction until you have to, as it begins your descent to the ground.

In "Dawn of the Dragon," Spyro gains the ability to fly, an expanded version of his hover ability from previous Spyro games. Spyro can fly in any direction for an indefinite period of time, a useful method of covering large distances quickly. However, random gusts of wind can knock Spyro back to the ground, so it is not possible to fly through the entire game.
