Uses for the Wii Zapper

The Wii Zapper is an accessory for the Nintendo Wii console that is designed for use with shooting games. It is not actually a separate controller, but rather a holder for the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers. The Wii Zapper holds these two controllers together to form a larger controller that is used like a gun.
  1. "Link's Crossbow Training"

    • "Link's Crossbow Training" is the game that comes packaged with the Wii Zapper. The game is a series of mini-games set in the same world as "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess." There are three different game modes that make use of the Wii Zapper. Target shooting levels only require the player to hit targets throughout the level. All movement is controlled by the game rather than the player. Defender levels have the player remain stationary, but allow him to aim in any direction. The goal is to defend the starting location from advancing groups of enemies. Ranger levels allow the player to control movement using the thumbstick on the Nunchuk controller attached to the Wii Zapper. The goal is to defeat all of the enemies in the area.

    "Resident Evil"

    • Two "Resident Evil" games, "Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles" and "Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles," use the Wii Zapper accessory. Both of these games are rail shooters, where player movement is controlled by the game, while the player focuses solely on aiming. Both games feature new content, but primarily focus on the plot of previous games in the series. "Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles" retells the events of "Resident Evil Zero," "Resident Evil" and "Resident Evil 3: Nemesis." "Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles" retells the events of "Resident Evil 2" and "Resident Evil Code: Veronica."

    "Dead Space: Extraction"

    • "Dead Space: Extraction" is a prequel to the original "Dead Space." It is primarily a rail shooter game. Survival horror elements, such as limited ammo, horror-based enemy design and numerous unexpected attacks, are still retained. The "aim for the limbs" approach to combat is also retained from the original game. The Necromorphs, which form the majority of enemy characters, are nearly unkillable. Shooting off arms and legs to immobilize them is the only practical method the player has to deal with these enemies.

    "Call of Duty"

    • "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare--Reflex Edition" and "Call of Duty: World at War" both use the Wii Zapper. "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare--Reflex Edition" is a military game set in a near future setting, and focuses on a conflict in the Middle East and a civil war in Russia. "Call of Duty: World at War" is set during World War II. Both games differ from the same game on other gaming platforms, which are developed to be standard first-person shooters. Instead the Wii versions use the Wii Zapper to create games more akin to arcade light-gun shooters.
