How to Install WAD Wii Games

A WAD is a file archive that contains the game files that can be installed and extracted on the Nintendo Wii. The majority of these are used to install custom Wii channels and new firmware. They can also be used to install whole games and game emulators on the Wii. Installing a WAD file on the Wii requires the use of one of the Wii hacks. The hack that works for the newest update, as of October 2010, is Twilight Princess, which uses the game of the same name.

  Download the Twilight Princess exploit file. Place the exploit on the SD card by putting the SD card into your computer and transferring the exploit file onto the SD card.

  Download the WAD installer. Extract the information from the file and rename the file "wad-installer" to "boot." Place the boot file onto your SD card.

  Rename the game WAD that you want to install to "gametitle.WAD." Put the game's title where it says "gametitle." Place this WAD file onto your SD card.

  Insert the SD card into the Wii and turn on the system. At the main menu, select the "Settings" menu in the lower right-hand corner of the screen.

  Navigate to the "Saves" page. Delete all of the information on your SD card except for the Twilight Princess exploit file and the WAD installer. Download the exploit save from the SD card onto the Wii.

  Insert the "Twilight Princess" game into the Wii and load it. Open up the save file on the SD card, which is the exploit file. Walk backwards in the game, and the Wii will prompt you to press "Reset" to install the WAD.
