Wiiware Games for Kids

For those who want to give their children a game to play on their Wii console but do not want to spend a lot of money, purchasing a WiiWare title may be the answer. These games can be purchased via the Nintendo Wii's online store and are usually priced at around $10. However, it may be hard to choose a game for your child due to the large number of available WiiWare titles.
  1. "World of Goo"

    • For children ages 8 and up who want a game that will challenge their minds, there is "World of Goo," a puzzle game that features a physics system by which the player solves puzzles by creating towers, bridges and other architectural items out of goo. The game starts out simple enough, but as your child plays through the levels it becomes more difficult.

    "Lostwinds"

    • In "Lostwinds," another game appropriate for children ages 8 and older, players take control of the main character and the wind by moving the Wii remote in a variety of ways. Since your child has control over wind itself, it can use these forces of nature to solve puzzles, navigate over dangerous environments and create new paths to progress through the game.

    "Dr. Mario Online RX"

    • A game appropriate for children 5 years and up,"Dr. Mario Online RX" features the same virus-destroying gameplay as the original "Dr. Mario." Your child can play as his favorite Mii avatar in the game and play "Dr. Mario Online RX" online against any friends who also have the game.

    "Max and the Magic Marker"

    • "Max and the Magic Marker" is a game designed with the entire family in mind and is simple enough that children 5 years old and up will be able have fun with it. "Max and the Magic Marker" takes the player on a trip through a child's mind as the protagonist, Max, draws with a magic marker he receives. The player controls Max and draws different pictures in an effort to defeat the purple people eater he drew at the beginning of the game. "Max and the Magic Marker" also has a platforming aspect, and players will have to jump and draw to get to the end of every level.

    "WarioWare D.I.Y. Showcase"

    • "Warioware D.I.Y. Showcase" is a game that is suitable for children ages 5 and up; basically, if your child knows how to use the Wii remote and click the "A" button, she will be able to play this game. The premise of "Warioware D.I.Y. Showcase" may sound simple, but it can in fact be challenging at times. Players are sent through a set of approximately 20 mini-games that only last roughly five seconds apiece. Each mini-game includes an action that must be performed within the time limit, and if it is not done correctly, the players are penalized. For example, if a mini-game pops up with a balloon and informs the player to "Hit" the balloon, then the player has approximately five seconds to swing the Wii remote and hit the balloon. For older players who want to show off their creativity, there is a mode where they can create their own mini-games and share them with their friends and family.
