How to Prevent Bricking in Wii

Your Nintendo Wii can "brick," which means that it stops functioning. The term "bricking" is used because after it occurs, your Nintendo Wii will be useful only in the capacity of a brick. There are several things that cause bricking, such as certain updates and modifications. These updates and modifications are not supported by the Nintendo Wii, so you should avoid using them in order to keep your Wii functioning properly. Preventing bricking in your Wii is easy to do if you run only the updates and play only the games that the Nintendo Wii is designed to support.

Instructions

Install updates for your Nintendo Wii only for your region. Attempting to install updates from Japan or Europe on a Wii in the American region can cause bricking. Nintendo Wii update messages will be sent to your console, and you can go through the Wii menu to confirm these updates and accept them. Read about updates before installing them, especially firmware updates.

Do not install unofficial channels on your Nintendo Wii; "homebrewed" channels are ones that are not created by Nintendo. The banner size, or image size, of these channels is not compatible with the Wii and can make it crash on boot.

Do not delete critical system files, such as IOS file or the System Menu executable file, from your Nintendo Wii. If these critical system files are missing, the Wii will not boot and will display a blank screen.
