How to Replace a Wii Sensor Bar

The sensor bar for the Nintendo Wii reads the signals from the Wii remote to input the motions players make into the game. If you swing the Wii remote around like a baseball bat, your character will swing the bat in the baseball component of "Wii Sports," for example. Replacing a sensor bar is a relatively simple process that can be completed in just a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the old sensor bar from the Wii. Unplug the old sensor bar connector from the slot on the back of the Wii console. This slot is located below the fan opening and beside the audio-video jack.

    • 2

Plug the new sensor bar connector into the slot on the back of the Nintendo Wii console. This is the same slot --- located below the fan opening and beside the audio-video jack --- that you removed the old plug from in Step 1.

    • 3

Remove the protective film covering the foam pads on the bottom of the bar. Add the included adhesive-backed tape, if desired, to the bottom of the sensor bar for increased stability.

    • 4

Feed the sensor bar cable through the channel on the bottom of the bar either to the left or the right, if you desire. This will help eliminate extra cable length.

    • 5

Place the sensor bar on top of the television or on the front edge of the surface on which the television sits. If the bar is placed on the TV, make sure you place it at the front edge.
